Governance
Good Governance Builds Great Communities
The Kentville Business Community (KBC) is a non-profit organization led by and for the downtown business community. We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, supported by dedicated staff, and guided by policies and strategic priorities that reflect the evolving needs of our members.

KBC’s work is grounded in strong governance practices that ensure accountability, transparency, and long-term impact. We believe that when local businesses lead the way, we build a stronger, more vibrant downtown for everyone.
Strategic Pillars
Our 2025–2028 Strategic Plan is guided by four key pillars that shape everything we do:

-
Communication & Engagement
Foster meaningful two-way communication and deeper relationships with downtown businesses and the Town of Kentville.
-
Marketing & Promotion
Position downtown Kentville as a vibrant, welcoming destination to shop, visit, and do business.
-
Advocacy
Champion thoughtful development, policies, and infrastructure investments that support a thriving downtown.
-
Organizational Efficacy
Strengthen KBC’s internal systems through governance best practices, strong leadership, and long-term sustainability.

How KBC is Governed
KBC’s Board of Directors is made up of members of the downtown business community who volunteer their time to guide the organization’s direction. The board sets strategic priorities, approves budgets, supports advocacy efforts, and ensures alignment with our mission.

-
Board members are elected by the membership and meet monthly.
-
Directors also serve on at least one committee to help advance KBC’s initiatives.
-
Applications to join the board are welcome year-round. We aim to build a board that reflects the diversity of our business community—across industries, business sizes, and perspectives.
Committees
Our board members also serve on working committees that help guide specific areas of focus:

-
Executive Committee – Oversees operations and supports the ED
-
Promotions Committee – Supports marketing campaigns and business storytelling
-
Events Committee – Advises on community events and engagement
-
Connections Committee – Helps foster a connection between the KBC & the businesses
-
Nominating Committee – Oversees board recruitment, onboarding, and policy development
-
Façade Program Committee – Reviews and supports façade and beautification applications
Annual General Meeting (AGM)
KBC hosts an AGM each year to report on progress, present financial statements, and elect new board members. All members located within the C1 Zone are encouraged to attend and vote.

-
The AGM is typically held in May or June
-
Members will be notified via email and public posting at between 21-35 days before the meeting
